Amy Black's Heart & Soul: A Night of Classic Rhythm & Blues w/s/g Erin Harpe & The Messers - 9/8/19
at City Winery Boston
Amy Black returns home to Boston to make her debut at City Winery on this special evening for a powerful cause: Supporting the survivors of human trafficking. A portion of the evening's ticket and merch sales will be donated to Boston-area charity Amirah to further their work with survivors of trafficking. Special guest, Erin Harpe & The Messers, will kick of the night and a very special guest, a survivor of trafficking, will share her story.
Amirah was founded in 2009 by a group of individuals seeking to join the anti-sex trafficking movement. Through connections with law enforcement, the group decided to meet the greatest need for survivors in New England: aftercare recovery.
Today, Amirah is the only credited Tier 3 safe home in all of New England according to Homeland Security and is recognized as a national leader in the recovery of survivors of sex trafficking. More at amriahinc.org.
ABOUT AMY BLACK
As a singer and songwriter, Amy Black is known for her authenticity and versatility. Her live performance, like her songwriting, spans from soft, tender and vulnerable...to fiery, dynamic and powerful.
Amy's love of many classic forms of American music led her from Boston, where she started her career...to Nashville...to Muscle Shoals...and, most recently, to Memphis to record with members of the Hi rhythm section (Al Green's backing band).
While always drawn to singers of soul, blues and gospel, it wasn't until Amy began exploring her own southern soul roots for her third album, The Muscle Shoals Sessions, that she knew her next project had to be made in the place where blues and soul converge (and where she herself was conceived); where Al Green, Otis Redding and so many others turned grit and groove into some of the world's most beloved tunes. Black then hunted down several top musical architects (members Hi rhythm section - Al Green's backing band) to help her lay down the sound she wished to make -- the sound of Memphis.
Amy's song "Without You" can be heard in the Clint Eastwood film, The Mule.
