Some Beatles songs were built around brass. On December 30, The Fab Faux bring The Hogshead Horns to City Winery NYC for a night devoted to the catalog’s horn arrangements, played with the full sound the studio recordings deserve. This red is layered the same way. Ripe currant and dark berries lead, with a note of black licorice underneath. The palate is full and chewy, filling out with cocoa, leather, and dense dark fruit the way a horn section fills out a chorus. The finish lingers, smooth and slightly sweet. Produced in limited quantities with original Fab Faux artwork, it’s one of four bottles from the residency. A fitting pour for a dinner party with the volume up, and a fine addition to the full collection.

These grapes came in bursting with flavor! Destemmed and hand sorted, then fermented to dryness at moderate temperatures on skins, followed by full malo-lactic fermentation and barreled down with a combination of neutral French and American  oak. Just over 12 months on oak until it was released in bottle.

This wine is an easy stand alone as a cocktail wine to get the evening started. It would also pair well with root beer marinated pulled pork, chicken vindaloo or chicken scarpariello. Vegetarians can look toward morel mushrooms in a Sherry wine reduction.  For anyone with a sweet tooth, think of blackberry cobbler or coffee cake.
