Skin-Contact Albariño Orange Wine 2024

A golden amber color, this wine immediately lets you know that it is no standard white wine.  Calling to mind all the aromas of Indian Summer, with aromas of orange blossom, dried straw, dark caramel, cut grass and clove.  This character follows through into the mouth, where it is joined by a thread of fresh mango, ripe melon and a surprisingly good body that holds together a weighty, yet refined mouthfeel.  The finish is long and mineral / citrus.

Tucked into the northern edge of the San Joaquin Valley, Lodi is distinguished by rich, diverse soils.  The region has been home to wine production since the 1850s and has a Mediterranean climate with warm days and cool nights, thanks to the infamous “delta breeze.”  While the AVA has many different soil types, most places have deep loam soils and large rocks.

This wine was crafted to provide a white wine that would pair well with traditionally red wine dishes.  You can also think of pairing to highlight the citrus notes with duck l’orange, orange and clove pork loin, or a fennel salad with orange supremes.
