About The Amours
Music always starts with love. It begins and ends on this note. The passion behind a musician transfers to the power of a song. The Amours sing, perform, and captivate with an endless amount of ardor. As a result, the Washington, D.C. sister duo of Jakiya Ayanna and Shaina Aisha immediately enchant every time they step up to the microphone together. Locked into a fresh and focused familial harmony, they breathe a soulful spirit into R&B on each release for Morton Records.
Attending the prestigious Duke Ellington School of the Arts, they received rigorous classical training and simultaneously developed a heightened understanding of the world around them shaped by their city. In 2014, the girls made the decision to formally launch The Amours. They went from performing at countless local open mic nights to posting videos on Instagram. Luke James became an early supporter after viewing their mash-up of his track “Strawberry Vapors.”
The Amours spent two years on the road as part of PJ’s backing band during the Gumbo World Tour and performed on the GRAMMY® Award-winning Gumbo Unplugged. Simultaneously, they honed a heartfelt and hypnotic sound of their own equally “tasteful, soulful, and authentic.”
The sound comes to life on the duo’s debut single “All The Time.” Acclaimed straight out of the gate by Okayplayer and YouKnowIGotSoul, the track spotlights the inimitable interplay of their voices over a sultry beat and subtle keys as a sweet hook takes hold, “I wanna be with you all the time.”
In the end, you’ll feel the love from The Amours for a very long time to come—because it’s real.
