Limit 2 bottles per person. A special commemorative bottle in celebration of Philip Glass's 85th birthday. It is our privilege to honor one of the most influential composers of the late 20th century with one of the best Chardonnays City Winery has produced. The label features an iconic photo of Philip Glass taken by the great photographer, Danny Clinch. Philip Glass is also widely recognized for his philanthropy. $10 dollars of every bottle will be donated to YoungArts, a national organization that empowers visual, literary and performing artists to pursue a life in the arts.
Aromatically, this wine leaps from the glass with an intense nose of vanilla beans, layered with honeysuckle and hints of tropical fruits. The fruit comes to the forefront, coupled with a rich voluminous mouthfeel. Crisp white peaches, apricots, and summer flowers dance on the tongue with hints of decadent vanilla and honey pastries. The finish is long and lingering with notes of nutmeg and toasted bread.
About The Vineyard
This superb Sonoma Chardonnay was harvested in the world famous Scopus Vineyard. Overlooking the historic Valley of the Moon are 12 acres planted entirely with Chardonnay. Rocky, volcanic soils mixed with clay encourage deep root development and ensure low yields of concentrated yet balanced fruit. Favored by a northeastern exposure protecting the vines from the warm afternoon sun, Scopus Chardonnays are distinguished by vivacious acidity, complexity, and mineral notes.
Wine Making Process
100% barrel-fermented at cool temperatures to provide weight and texture, while maintaining balance and clean citrus aromas. Extended lees aging in new French oak (Dargaud and Jegal, DAMY) with regular battonage and no malolactic fermentation captures the best elements of different styles.
"A superb Sonoma Chardonnay."
