John Forté returns to City Winery! Following his recent appearance on Amy Schumer’s podcast 3 Girls, 1 Keith, the Grammy-nominated recording artist, filmmaker, writer, and activist is releasing a new collection of music and hitting the stage in support of it.
In 2001, Forté was arrested and convicted for a first-time, non-violent drug offense. While he was granted executive clemency in 2008 by then-president George W. Bush, the experience catalyzed Forté’s commitment to criminal justice reform.
First recognized for his work with multi-platinum hip-hop group The Fugees, Forté has been involved in a number of creative projects – from creating the inaugural anthem for the Brooklyn Nets to serving as the Music Supervisor / Composer for the CBS TV series Brooklyn D.A., the TV series The Last Defense (Executive Produced by Viola Davis), and the Schools Not Prisons youth advocacy tour.
In 2017, Forté created, directed, and scored Mary’s Chimes, a docu-series about people who improved their health by using Mary’s Medicinals and Mary’s Nutritionals products. Deeply moved by the testimonials, Forté became committed to furthering public awareness of the benefits of cannabis products. In 2018, Forté was offered and subsequently accepted the position of ‘Head of Strategic Partnerships’ at Rose Capital / BR Brands, a leading investment firm within the global legal cannabis sector.
‘Art is where all worlds collide,’ Forté said. ‘My new music very deliberately explores family, profession and purpose.’
