Art Alexakis of Everclear Solo w/ Alex2e 1/12/2020
Some 25 years into his career as a recording artist, Art Alexakis—best-known as the singer-
guitarist and sole songwriter behind the iconic alt-rock outfit Everclear—has started a new
chapter in his remarkably prolific career, now as a solo artist.
Alexakis has only started to explore his potential as a solo artist, and expects to continue to
evolve through the process. The liberating freedom he’s been enjoying since venturing down
this new path has expanded his potential musical palette, allowing him to explore a seemingly endless array of ideas. Although he’s not always sure of where those ideas will ultimately lead, one thing is certain: The journey will bring Alexakis—and fans—to places where he’s yet to venture. It will be exciting to hear the sonic offspring of that pioneering voyage.
“I’m totally in the middle of ideas constantly,” Alexakis says. “I play six or seven times a day, and I’m always putting lyrics into my phone. My wife plays ukulele, and I’ll pick it up and write stuff on it. I’ve been teaching myself to play piano, and I’ve got a Wurlitzer in my studio. I’m literally coming up with 10 different ideas a day and I’m putting them all together. I’m really excited, and it’s going to be a lot of fun. This is 100% me."
Alex2e (actual name Alex Tuohey) is a self-taught singer/songwriter from Western Massachusetts. More importantly, Alex2e is a storyteller. In 2012, while recovering from a major surgery and desperate for reprieve, he picked up his sister's beat up guitar and started writing. Words became lyrics, days became months and bathroom video covers turned into gigs. Fast forward to today and his leaps can be measured in dog years.
Called "One of Boston's most sought after artists" by Berklee's Red Room, Alex has made a name for himself both in his home state and beyond. Averaging 130+ dates annually, he has traveled the country while supporting national acts such as Howie Day, Tyler Hilton, Aaron Carter, O-Town, Shawn James, Ryan Cabrera and Griffin House among others. With a debut EP in the top 10 of iTunes Singer/Songwriter chart and new release "Half-Grown" gaining regional momentum, he continues to prove - it's never too late to find your passion.
