Nashville Songwriters Association International presents Artists & The Songwriters They Love. This unique series will highlight a recording artist and a hand-picked group of songwriters the artist works with, is friends with, is a fan of, or any combination of the three! In this acoustic in-the-round approach, the audience will be treated to intimate performances of the songs by these writers and artists and hear the stories behind them.
Here’s why God made RaeLynn. Because country music needed her. Because America needed to fall in love.
Now, following up on the success of her 2014 gold-certified debut single “God Made Girls,” with the release of her Warner Bros. Records/Warner Music Nashville debut album, there’s one more reason: Because the time has come for her to blossom as an undeniable force of nature with roots deeply planted in tradition and a finger on the pulse of life.
On WildHorse, we hear that same warmth and accessibility and sense the same buoyant personality that ushered her into the spotlight on NBC’s “The Voice.” But she was only 17 years old then, her appeal defined in part by her innocence and openness to all that lie ahead. She’s still young but at 23 she can apply a deeper dimension to those qualities. That same Texas twang colors her voice; add to it a new sophistication, a broader palette, with a maturity in her ability to deliver a performance, and you’ve got something special. You’ve got WildHorse, which has been heralded as Best Country Album of 2017 by UPROXX, Stereogum and Rolling Stone, solidifying the project as the next step on RaeLynn’s path toward true stardom.
“I grew up listening to singers whose voices were a little eccentric like Duffy and Ingrid Michaelson, along with Shania Twain and The Civil Wars,” said RaeLynn. “When I first moved to Nashville I use to try and make my voice sound different, but I finally realized it already sounded different.” Along with her distinct voice and a writing style that is rooted in her upbringing, she distills a sound that is unquestionably her own. That uniqueness comes through immediately on WildHorse. She co-wrote almost every song on the album and shows no fear in tackling any subject with honesty and sensitivity.
One of Nashville’s elite songwriter/producers, Corey Crowder is a multi-talented natural best known for his ongoing collaboration with country star Chris Young. Raised in Loganville, Georgia, Crowder began his career as an aspiring artist, but moved to Nashville in 2010 to focus his efforts on behind-the-scenes hit making. Since then, he’s earned a place at the top of the charts multiple times, including in 2015 with Young’s PLATINUM-certified three-week #1 “I’m Comin’ Over” and again in 2016 with Young’s PLATINUM #1 “Think of You” (featuring Cassadee Pope). Also in 2015, Crowder scored his first #1 as a producer with Young’s GOLD-certified album, I’M COMIN’ OVER. The pair forged a musical brotherhood and have gone on to co-produce Young’s IT MUST BE CHRISTMAS and LOSING SLEEP, a project which includes seven more Crowder-penned tracks. As a songwriter, he has co-written a Top 20 single for A Thousand Horses – “(This Ain’t No) Drunk Dial” – and Top 10 Canadian hits by Jess Moskaluke and Tim Hicks. His in-demand songs have been cut by Chris Janson, Justin Moore, Jon Pardi, Cole Swindell and Michael Ray while also earning placement on hit TV shows like Nashville, One Tree Hill, The Biggest Loser, The Real World, and Gainesville. Crowder’s production credits include work by RaeLynn, Cale Dodds, Seth Ennis, James Otto, Eric Paslay, Jamie Lynn Spears, among others, and he is an Academy of Country Music Awards and Billboard Music Awards nominee.
A Virginia native, Emily Weisband moved to Nashville, TN to pursue a career in songwriting and has since proven to be a driving force. During her years as a songwriting major at Belmont University, Emily met Rusty Gaston, General Manager and co-owner of THiS Music Publishing. She signed her very first publishing deal with THiS Music/Warner Chappell in early 2014. She has since had songs recorded by various artists including Keith Urban, Darius Rucker, Danielle Bradbery, Lauren Alaina, Hunter Hayes, Natalie Grant, Hillary Scott and Family, Pink, Lady Antebellum, Thomas Rhett, Camilla Cabello, Selena Gomez, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, RaeLynn, Danny Gokey, etc. In 2017 Weisband took home a Grammy for Best Contemporary Christian Performance/Song, along with fellow co-writers Hillary Scott and Bernie Herms, for "Thy Will" performed by Hillary Scott and Family.
A North Carolina native, Jimmy Robbins’ achievements as a songwriter include 9 Top 10 hits including 7 #1 songs. In addition, Jimmy is a CMA Triple Play Award winner and ASCAP Song of the Year winner for “It Goes Like This” performed by Thomas Rhett. Other notable compositions by Robbins include Blake Shelton’s “Sure Be Cool If You Did,” David Nail’s “Whatever She’s Got,” Jake Owen’s “Beachin’,” Jason Aldean’s “Lights Come On,” and Keith Urban’s duet with Miranda Lambert “We Were Us.”
