EN HOMMAGE: A TRIBUTE TO ENVOGUE

hom·mage/oh-MAHZH noun, 1.  tribute. 2. expression of high regard. 3. special honor or respect shown publicly.

Four talented Nashville artists come together to pay tribute to music makers who inspire generations in the production series, En Hommage (translation: "In Tribute"). The production debuts with a tribute to the 90's R&B vocal group, and “Funky Divas,” En Vogue. As En Vogue is the first honored in the production series, the title is an inspired take on the quartette's play on their own French moniker. The series debut brings a well-rounded concert embodying the reminiscent sounds of the popular recording artists while incorporating a full band, live vocal performance, and routines choreographed by the founder of Nashville's Sweat N' Seduction, Jasmine Porter. This show features Nashville based performers: Lo Carter, Katrice Donaldson, Javaria Porter, and April Rucker - four gifted singers who boast vast resumes, working both nationally and abroad. "The goal is not to impersonate... it is to honor artists that inspire us through our own creative expression."

APRIL RUCKER

Sultry songstress and multi-talented Music City native April Rucker grew up surrounded by a musical family which inspired her love for music. As a product of Nashville School of the Arts [where she honed her craft and studied various genres] she used her knowledge performing with groups and artists nationally and abroad.  As a backing vocalist April has built an extensive resume lending her talents to many artists including Grammy award winning Lalah Hathaway (Def Jam/ Motown), Chrisette Michele (Def Jam), KebMo (Epic), other well-known recording artists such as Nick Jonas (Universal), Hunter Hayes (Warner Music), Kevin Costner (Universal South), Ryan Kinder (Warner Music),  and Rita Coolidge to name a few. She has performed with many independent artists such as Shelly Fairchild, Will Hoge, Damien Horne of duo "North Music" and has opened for Neo-Soul artist Dwele (Virgin Records) as a solo act. April has also worked behind the scenes on soundtracks for popular shows like The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, CMT's Nashville, and Oprah Winfrey's series Greenleaf to name a few.

JAVARIA PORTER

Instrumental in shaping Nashville’s soul music sound, Javaria Porter’s vocals cannot go unnoticed. With dreams of gracing big platforms, Javaria stepped into her first professional singing opportunity at 17 by providing BGVs for Christian artist, Kelli Williams.  Since then, this singer, songwriter, and vocal producer has provided both stage and studio vocals for artists such as Kirk Whalum, CeCe Winans, Point of Grace, Israel Houghton, Howard Hewitt, Pastor Wess Morgan, Judith McAllister, and Big Kenny of Big & Rich. Additionally, she has leased her warm, sultry contralto, which has been likened to that of Lalah Hathaway -- one of Porter’s biggest musical influences, to renowned artists Katie Hargrove, Leon Timbo, Jonathan Pierce, Darlene Zschech, Shae Williams’, Damien Horne of Music Mafia & The Farm, Mike Farris, Kyla Jade, Joshua Scott Jones, Kendra Chantelle, Lari White, Shanna Crooks, Myron Butler, Lisa Page-Brooks, Mario “Rioville” Moore, Kendall Morgan, Tim Akers & the Smoking Section, Pastor Melvin Dawson, and Lisa Kimmey. Her artistry and talent have fashioned many a passport stamp while she traveled the world as the lead singer of a BB King All Star Band. With a passion to shine light in the darkest places using her gift of music, Java has worked with a number of non-profit affiliations including Toya Haynes’ Kid Electric Concerts which supports local charities, Girls on the Run, a physical activity-based development program for young females, and Love in A Big World, a social and emotional learning resource for moving kids from risk to resilience.

KATRICE DONALDSON

Nashville native Katrice Donaldson possesses a voice like no other. She has been afforded the opportunity to sing background for gospel artists such as Yolanda Adams, Dottie Peoples, and BeBe Winans to name a few. She started an 8-piece band in 2011 entitled “Everyday People” where she is currently the lead female singer. Places they have performed include West Point, New York, Ballet Ball at the Schermerhorn Symphony in Nashville, TN, Carson Center in KY, Musician Hall of Fame in Nashville, TN, Printers Alley in Nashville, TN, numerous weddings, Galas, festivals, parties, and events throughout the states. Participating in events such as the SpreadLuv tribute to Organized Noize and Love in a Big World show are just a few ways in which she loves sharing her voice. “Singing is in my blood. My mother sings, my mother in law is a musician, my great uncle, the late great Dr. Rev. Morgan Babb was a singer, my husband is a profound writer and lyricist whom also sings, and my children are all talented as well.” She can give you those soft sultry sounds or power packed vocals when needed. “I feel as though people should know who I am through not only talking to me but listening to me as well. I am young at heart, but I have an old soul and I’m always up for the challenge.”

LO CARTER

Hailing from Atlanta, GA, this multi-talented southern belle writes and sings about the wonders of love, life, and intimate experiences. In 2011, she released Seasons, her 1st Indie EP. The Seasons EP exploded onto the United Kingdom music scene and enjoyed singles in rotation across 45 different countries.  She was nominated for Nashville Independent Music Awards in 2010, 2011 and 2012, winning Artist of the Year and Best R&B Female Solo artist in 2012, and an SEA award that same year. Her loving personality and energy on stage has led to performances backing major artists at the Stella, Dove and CMA Awards. She also opened shows for R&B/Soul sensations Anthony Hamilton and Christopher Williams as a solo performer. She has even dabbled in tv with appearances on ABC’s Nashville. Nowadays though, Lo Carter lends her vocals to the Gemco imprint delivering a resplendent song in 2017. The first 7” 45 of the year from Gemco, “Living in Harmony”, came complete with a remix DJ’s prize instrumental version on the B-side, and a song that couldn’t be more timely--in message and in feel. Lo Carter continues to give back to the community by participating in charitable benefits, lending her vocal coaching skills to aspiring youth and “youthful” via community workshops or private lessons; and consistently working with local community organizations and non-profits promoting and planning artistic community events.
