Rahsaan Patterson was born in New York but moved to Los Angeles at the age of 9 to portray "The Kid" on the popular 1980s television show Kids Incorporated, appearing alongside such future stars as Fergie, Martika, Mario Lopez and Shanice.
After Kids Incorporated, Rahsaan worked as a backup vocalist for several artists (including Kids co-star Martika). Following his vocal contributions on Colour Club's self-titled album, as well as writing songs for other artists (including Brandy's platinum Top 5 smash "Baby", and Tevin Campbell's hit "Back to the World"), he signed with MCA Records. Collaborating with Keith Crouch and Jamey Jaz, among others, he released his self-titled debut album on January 28, 1997. He has released a total of 6 albums as a solo performer
In 2008, Rahsaan joined with Australian-born producer/multi- instrumentalist/songwriter Jarrad 'Jaz' Rogers and Copenhagen- based electro-soul songstress Ida Corr to form the London-based alternative soul/pop/funk trio SugaRush Beat Company, and released a self-titled album through RCA (UK) that summer.
After each new project, Rahsaan has gone on the road to rave reviews in Europe, Japan, Australia and the US.
Rahsaan has also had songs in many films including "Love & Basketball," "Dr. Doolittle," "Two Can Play That Game," Hoodlum," "Brown Sugar" and the new installment of the Ice Cube franchise "Barbershop: The Next Cut." He has consistently made guest appearances on other artist's CDs including Jonathan Butler, Boney James, Brian Culbertson, Ledisi, Rochelle Ferrell and many others.
Combining Rahsaan's solo releases, songs he has written and performed on soundtracks and songs he has written that were recorded by other artist, his music has contributed to 10 million records sold to date.
Not one to create music for strictly commercial considerations, Rahsaan has been able to keep the integrity of his artistry intact. As he puts it, "my music is always layered, it's always personal & spiritual and it's always my relationship with my listener. You listening to my album is my conversation with you."
