May is Oregon Wine month and we are celebrating with a dinner featuring the wines of Walnut City Wineworks. This event will feature Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley, perfectly paired with four courses from Chef Enx. Hear the stories behind the wines, as Amanda Kocher joins us to narrate the evenings’ meal. Come learn why Oregon is doing some of the most exciting things in American Wine.
Amanda Kocher is an Oregon native who grew up in the Willamette Valley. She got her bachelor’s degree at Western Oregon University in Education and promptly moved to Boston, MA. She spent ten years in Boston, returning to Oregon in April 2011. Amanda worked in retail and primarily in well-known Boston restaurants. The Wine Bottega was where she gained an appreciation for wines of the world. This position led to other positions. First as a wine steward in a high-end Italian restaurant and then off to Mare as a Beverage Manager. At Mare, she received a Wine Spectator award of excellence for her list. Eventually, Amanda also took on the role of General Manager and began hosting wine dinners in the restaurant, where her passion allowed her to connect further with the people of Boston. Amanda attended Oregon Pinot Noir Camp in 2006. According to her, it was an amazing experience that re-energized her passion for Oregon wines. After four years at Mare, Amanda moved onto Barbara Lynch’s the Butcher Shop, where the focus was primarily European wines. After Amanda’s two year tenure, however, the Oregon pinot noir section expanded to bring in a wonderful New World taste. After nine years in the Boston restaurant scene, Amanda was ready to come back to the “easier and calmer” pace of the Pacific Northwest and continues to exude her passion for Oregon wines. She has been with Walnut City since May of 2011, first as their tasting room manager and then moving into the role of National Sales Manager in 2014. She looks forward to sharing their wines that are rooted in farming, grown on experience, and delivered with heart.
