Wine Profile

Gold Winner (94 Points) International Women's Wine Competition 2020.Reserve Pinot Noir 2018 from Bacigalupi Vineyard, Russian River Valley, California.

Vineyard description:

Situated on a gentle southeast facing slope that has been owned by Helen & Charles Bacigalupi since 1948.This is a benchmark vineyard in Sonoma County and the Russian River producing some of the best Pinot Noir in California.

Wine making Info:

14 day maceration. Daily pumping over during 5 day cold soak, then punch downs twice daily through fermentation.  Partial press blended back into free-run juice. Full malolactic fermentation.  Gravity pumped into a combination of 20% new Dargaud & Jaegle and 80% used barrels from D&J and Seguin Moreau.

Wine Description:

A warm ripe vintage has yielded a wine of cranberry red color and truly heady aromatics.  Lots of red rose and sour Morello cherry notes in the nose.  The mouth feeling is light and lithe with light acidity and medium tannins for a Pinot. Expect more cherry flavor and perhaps a hint of the loamy earthy flavor reminiscent of those alluvial river soils from this vineyard on the river.

How City Winery Makes Wine

Step 1
Grapes
We contract carefully selected vineyards to supply grapes. Prior to harvest we choose our preferred varietals and make shipping arrangements.
Step 2
Crush and Maceration
Grapes are inspected upon arrival and if approved, de stemmed, sorted, and finally crushed.
Step 3
Aging
After fermentation the wine is barreled into the cellar to begin aging per the winemakers design. Typical aging is 6-10 months but options exist for aging up to 24 months.
Step 4
Blending
After the wine has aged to its optimal condition, our winemakers further refine the wine by blending it with other wines if desired.
Step 6
Labeling
The finished wine is hand bottled, corked, and labeled.
Step 6
The Result
A carefully crafted wine made with grapes from the best vineyards and produced locally. Indulge.
